Robinhood Chain nears $1B TVL as Uniswap drives liquidity: Standard Chartered

Robinhood Chain is approaching $1 billion in total value locked (TVL), with Uniswap driving the vast majority of its liquidity needs, according to Standard Chartered. The rapid growth has positioned the new blockchain among the fastest-starting networks in the cryptocurrency industry, as it leverages established DeFi infrastructure rather than building liquidity from scratch.

Standard Chartered analyst Geoffrey Kendrick noted that Robinhood Chain has grown to nearly $1 billion in TVL, a milestone that he described as the fastest growth of any blockchain by that measure. Virtually all of Robinhood Chain’s liquidity needs are being met through Uniswap V2, V3 and V4 protocols, Kendrick said in a recent research note. The arrangement gives Robinhood access to proven decentralized finance rails while it scales its own blockchain ecosystem.

Robinhood Chain’s rapid ascent

Robinhood Chain launched on July 1 with a focus on bringing real-world assets onchain. Adoption accelerated quickly after launch, with the network recording 194,000 daily active users during its first week. Within days, over $70 million in ETH was bridged to the chain, signaling strong early demand from users seeking to interact with tokenized assets and DeFi applications.

The TVL milestone is particularly notable given the crowded blockchain landscape. New layer-1 and layer-2 networks often struggle to attract liquidity because users and developers gravitate toward established ecosystems. By integrating directly with Uniswap, Robinhood Chain bypassed the traditional cold-start problem, immediately offering users access to deep liquidity pools and familiar trading interfaces.

Standard Chartered’s analysis suggests that this strategy is working. The bank highlighted that Robinhood Chain’s growth has been driven almost entirely by Uniswap’s decentralized exchange infrastructure, which provides the necessary trading depth to support a wide range of assets. This stands in contrast to many other new chains that rely on incentive programs or centralized market makers to bootstrap liquidity.

Uniswap’s role and UNI token burns

Robinhood’s partnership with Uniswap is not just benefiting the brokerage; it is also reshaping Uniswap’s token economics. According to Standard Chartered, protocol fees generated through Robinhood are now the largest source of UNI token burns. This marks a significant shift in how UNI is consumed and could have long-term implications for the token’s supply dynamics.

The UNI burn rate has roughly doubled since a Robinhood-linked fee switch was activated on July 27. At the current pace, the annualized burn rate is approximately $90 million. Based on UNI’s price of roughly $3.50 apiece, that translates to about 25 million UNI tokens being burned annually, which represents just over 4% of the circulating supply. This accelerated burn rate reduces the overall supply of UNI over time, potentially benefiting existing holders if demand remains constant or increases.

The fee switch mechanism is a critical component of Uniswap’s governance. It allows a portion of the protocol’s trading fees to be redirected toward buying back and burning UNI tokens, creating deflationary pressure. The activation of this switch on Robinhood Chain has dramatically increased the volume of fees eligible for burns, making the brokerage’s integration a key driver of UNI’s tokenomics.

Broader crypto and tokenization push

Robinhood Chain is part of Robinhood’s broader push beyond traditional stock trading. The company has been aggressively expanding into cryptocurrencies, prediction markets, and asset tokenization. This strategy has caught the attention of Wall Street, with analysts at Bernstein raising their price target for Robinhood (HOOD) stock to $160 per share. Bernstein specifically identified tokenization and prediction markets as key growth drivers for the brokerage.

Robinhood’s expansion into blockchain has been met with mixed trends in its crypto business. The company reported record revenue and earnings in the second quarter, even as crypto trading volumes and revenues declined. This suggests that Robinhood Chain and related initiatives are being viewed as long-term strategic bets rather than immediate revenue generators. The launch of a dedicated blockchain allows Robinhood to offer onchain services directly to its user base, potentially deepening customer engagement.

The tokenization focus is particularly significant. Real-world assets (RWAs) have emerged as one of the most promising use cases for blockchain technology, with major financial institutions exploring ways to represent traditional assets such as bonds, credit, and funds on distributed ledgers. Robinhood Chain’s emphasis on RWAs aligns with this broader industry trend and could position the brokerage as a leader in the tokenized asset space.

Prediction markets are another area of interest. Robinhood has been exploring ways to integrate prediction market services, which allow users to trade on the outcomes of future events. This could provide a new avenue for user engagement and trading volume, complementing the existing stock and crypto offerings. The company is reportedly in talks with Crypto.com over prediction markets, according to the Wall Street Journal, though no formal agreement has been announced.

Implications for the DeFi ecosystem

The success of Robinhood Chain has broader implications for the decentralized finance ecosystem. It demonstrates that traditional financial platforms can successfully integrate with DeFi protocols to launch new networks quickly and efficiently. By relying on Uniswap for liquidity, Robinhood avoided the need to incentivize users with large token rewards or build proprietary market-making operations.

This model could be replicated by other fintech companies and brokerages looking to enter the blockchain space. The ability to plug into existing DeFi infrastructure reduces the time and capital required to launch a competitive network. It also allows platforms to focus on user acquisition and asset offerings while leaving the complex task of liquidity provision to established protocols.

For Uniswap, the partnership represents a major win. Being chosen as the primary liquidity provider for a rapidly growing chain underscores the protocol’s robustness and versatility. It also generates substantial fee revenue, which fuels UNI token burns and strengthens the protocol’s economic model.

However, there are also risks. Dependence on a single protocol for liquidity could create concentration risks for Robinhood Chain. If Uniswap experiences technical issues or governance disputes, Robinhood Chain’s trading infrastructure could be adversely affected. Additionally, the broader market for TVL is competitive, and sustaining growth will require continued user adoption and asset inflows.

Despite these challenges, the early indicators are promising. The near-$1 billion TVL mark is a strong testament to the demand for blockchain-based financial services. As more users and assets migrate to Robinhood Chain, the network could become a significant player in the tokenized asset ecosystem.

Standard Chartered’s analysis also highlights the growing intersection between traditional banking and decentralized finance. Banks and brokerages are increasingly recognizing the value of blockchain technology for settlement, asset issuance, and trading. Robinhood’s partnership with Uniswap is a prime example of this trend, showing how legacy financial platforms can leverage crypto-native infrastructure.

In the near term, all eyes will be on Robinhood Chain’s ability to sustain its momentum. The network’s rapid growth has set a high bar, and maintaining liquidity and user engagement will be key to its long-term success. With Uniswap driving the lion’s share of liquidity and token burns accelerating, the two platforms are now deeply intertwined, for better or worse. As Robinhood continues to expand its crypto and tokenization offerings, the relationship between the brokerage and the DeFi protocol will likely evolve, shaping the future of both ecosystems.
